About

Nika Patrice Joillie writes about galactic hopscotch, robots, and moonshine. But you can tell people she writes fantasy, speculative, and heightened-reality fiction because that’s a little bit easier to explain.

And maybe you don’t have time, to have, like, one of those, *whole conversations,* right now. Born in the Caribbean, and raised in different areas of the United States, in the American South, on the East Coast, and on the West Coast, she experienced life and stories through her perspective, and also through the perspectives of all the different people she was meeting.

She grew up in a Nielsen family feeling like the lone artist amongst a bunch of sciencey people, only to discover she was surrounded by a bunch of hidden irreverent artists all along. She continues to enjoy everything from acting, to the voice arts, to creating new worlds. Watch out for language warnings and content trigger warnings.

Some of her favorite enjoyable real-life adventure moments include experiencing a hike, along a green, and winding trail, on a day when it was both raining and completely sunny, in Kaua’i; having an especially noodly and magical bowl of pasta pomodoro, made with local farm-grown tomatoes, at a hidden restaurant in Venice, Italy,

Sitting in those prime, central, seats, waiting for the show to begin, in the dome of an Omni Theater in Texas; and hiding away, in a snug center-room nook, with a good book, pouring a freshly brewed, cup of mint tea, in a sun-drenched, mid-town loft, in Paris. Not to mention, enjoying quiet views of the city & sea, and eating ackee, dumpling, and callaloo, in the off season, along the jewel toned magical beaches of Montego Bay.

She keeps a changing list of places she wants to remember to go, and experiences she wants to remember to have. Though her favorite adventure, many times, is the simple refuge of home. With a love of art, astronomy, the earth sciences, discovery, books, audiobooks, streaming, movies, and yes, the real-life adventure, quiet beauty, and awakening stillness of the outdoors, she is a poet and artist, who sometimes writes original spec screenplays and novels.
