Gone
I don’t get to hide in fairytales or fantasy novels
one day I have to face you’ve been lost to the storm
that you’re with me on the deck
because, when the sun come up, we can’t go home again
that here for us, when that sun, that sun it come up,
that the sun did come up,
but not to light our faces the way that it did,
that here the sun did come up
and couldn’t change course
light the way
take us back
from the edge, the edge of the world
that the sun did come up
not to make the way, light the way—
to say a prayer
the sky
the night
our light
our lives
alone it’s just us
and day
we both stand, in the sun, at the heart of the deck
alone, but here, both looking out from the deck
it’s ‘passed, long ‘passed, the wind and the storm
stand next to me, there’s the sun,
and stand next to me,
and still we’re both looking out,
‘passed the wind and the storm,
looking out from,
we’re both looking out, looking out,
we’re both looking out, we look out here,
from the heart of the deck, and still, and still, and still, and still, you’re gone.
“Gone.”
